This is an exercise I did on Moroni Taylor's website. The dialogue from this was taken from the film "The Big Night", and these boards are based on what I came up with after reading that dialogue.

Dave Pimmental gesture drawing session at CTN

I can't believe I never posted these earlier!!!!! A few weeks ago at the CTN Animation Expo, I had the privilege of attending Dave Pimmentel's gesture drawing workshops. The model was excellent and performed really well. He ended up telling a story with the five minute poses he did. Here's what I came up with:

For those of you who don't know, Ryan was my professor, and mentor when I was an undergrad at BYU. Everything I know today about story boarding and drawing, I owe to him. In spite of the annoying little kid I was, he took me by the hand and showed me what it meant to be an animation artist. I owe so much to him, and I aspire one day to be not the only the artist but the man he is. Ryan, thank you so much for all you've taught me, I will apply it all to the best of my ability wherever I go, and I apologize for the the four years of misery I've caused you.

Fan Art Friday- Those Meddling Kids!!!!!

So far, Paranorman has been my favorite animated film of the year (but I still need to see Wreck-It-Ralph). While watching it, I couldn't help but think of three things: The Goonies, The Sixth Sense, and Scooby Doo. This being a film with a group of "meddling kids", and in commemoration of the most recent Halloween, I couldn't help but mesh them with the old Hanna Barbera cartoon.

Fan art Friday

I first saw Cats Don't Dance while studying at BYU. The animation and character design in this film are first class. It also has, I think, two of the funniest villains I've ever seen in animation. To top it all off, there's also dance choreography composed by the great Gene Kelly!!!!!

There are a lot of great movies about Hollywood and movie-making (Sunset Boulevard, The Artist and Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse are my personal favorites). For this, I just thought I'd combine this underrated piece of animation with one of my favorite films of the new decade.
