These are a few drawings of the main character of a graphic novel that I have been commissioned to work on. A lot of these drawings are combinations of both Jay Hernandez, Dev Patel, and Zachary Quinto.

Mother's Day present

This is a watercolor of my brother and his baby girl, Haven. I painted this for my Mom to show that her good influence and nurturing of us has moved on to a new generation, and will affect many in the future. Happy Mother's Day Mom!!!! I love you!!!!!!

Here's some sketchbook stuff I've been doing in classes, and a few things from my trip to california with my dad. While there, we had the privilege of going to the Getty Villa near Malibu. They have a wide variety of Greek and Roman statues, so I grabbed my sketchbook and started doodling away. Some of these are also sketches I did from the works of one of my heroes: John Singer Sargent.

It's very rare that I ever do a picture that I feel good about. I feel like this drawing convinced me that I am finally improving.

New Landscape of Heber

Monet had a home in Giverny, France. It was where he got a lot of his inspiration for his later work. There he had a garden with a japanese bridge and a pool with lilies. To me, Midway, Utah is a sort of Giverny for me. Although there are more beautiful places in the world, Midway and Heber are two very special places for me because of the environment I was raised in and the great memories I have there.

Composition studies using Rembrandt

Okay, I must confess, I worship the ground Rembrandt walks on. He is my hero and one of my favorite artists of all time. He was a genius at chiaroscuro and compositions. If he lived in our time, he probably would have been an excellent film maker like Hitchcock, Kubrick, or Welles. Here are some paintings by Rembrandt that show how well he used light and other elements to stage his paintings.

Sketches from Italy

Last summer, I had the chance to go to Italy on study abroad. I was there for six wonderful weeks of art, beautiful scenery, art, great food, art, wonderful Italian people, art, and all the drawing and painting time I wanted. Did I mention all the art we saw there?
